Both her parents, Will Knightley & Sharman Macdonald, have been involved with acting for many years. <BR> <BR> Sharman Macdonald grew up in Ayrshire. Her father was an engineer and her mother was a secretary. She went to University in Edinburgh, where Max Stafford-Clark was revolutionizing theatre with his Joint Stock methods. She joined the drama society in 1972 and performed as a go-go dancer at night to pay the fees. Unfortunately for Sharman, she succumbed to stage fright and decided to give up stage acting. <BR> <BR> Sharman Macdonald and actor Will Knightley were married had had two children: Caleb, born in 1979 (?), and Keira, born March 22nd, 1985.<BR> <BR> Still in love with the business, Sharman Macdonald wrote her first play in 1984, entitled When I Was A Girl I Used to Scream and Shout. Sharman describes the situation: "I have fears about her becoming part of the business. I have fears about her going to interviews and not getting the job, suffering rejection. I can only support what she wants to do." <BR> <BR> Keira and her parents eventually made a deal - Keira could act on holidays from school, and could only continue if she kept her school grades up to par. When she was only 6 years old, Keira had landed herself an agent and at the age of 7 she got her first part from a friend of her parents'. In 1994, when Keira was only 9-years-old, she played Natasha Jordan in the movie A Village Affair. The situation was further complicated by the fact that Natalie Portman said many times that she plays both Padme and the queen. Of course we all know this is true, but she never mentioned the fact that there was a decoy queen (because George Lucas wouldn't allow her to ruin the surprise.)<BR> <BR> It wasn't until 1998 that Keira Knightley received her "introducing" credit when she starred in the first (of a four-part) Drama series called Coming Home.
